Lasik

One year ago, I had my Lasik surgery. One year ago, I went “under the laser” (as opposed to “under the knife”) and had my corneas reshaped. And I haven’t looked back.

  • I LOVE the fact that I don’t have to put on glasses to read the clock in the morning.
  • I LOVE the fact that I can see things at night while driving and not worry about dry contacts being blurry and scraping my cornea.
  • I LOVE the fact that I don’t have to wear glasses (except for small print in bad light).
  • I LOVE the fact that when my eyes get a bit tired I don’t have to pop out contacts and wear glasses – all I have to do is put a drop or two of Systane in my eyes.
  • I LOVE the fact that I can walk in from the cold and not worry about glasses fogging up.
  • I LOVE the fact that I can watch my drive in golf all the way to where it lands (that is without a slice or hook!!)
  • I LOVE the fact that I don’t have to buy saline/daily cleaner/weekly enzyme for contacts.
  • I LOVE the fact that I don’t have to buy prescription glasses.

For anyone out there who is considering Lasik surgery, I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

They Eyes Have It – Part 2

So it’s a done deal. I went in today and had lasik surgery. My eyes are bit dry; well, at least I seem to notice that I’m blinking more. Also things have a bit of a “halo” around them. But as far as seeing – it was a huge success. I have some drops to put into my eyes every two hours – that to go along with the drops I have to put in every morning and evening. But, I do know from friends who have had the surgery that the halo thing will go away soon.

I have my followup appointment tomorrow morning, but the doctor checked out everything after the surgery and said it was “perfect”. I don’t know if he’s talking about his own handiwork or the way my eyes looked (no, I didn’t think THAT – get your mind out of my gutter!) after the surgery.

Anyway, I can see things across the room as well as I did with my glasses or contacts before – well, maybe better than with contacts. But also, things like this computer screen are quite in focus as well. I have to say that the results are more than meeting my expectations at this point. And from what I’ve heard from friends who have had the surgery, my vision will get sharper in the next week or so and settle in to its final state.

The Eyes Have It

I finally broke down this year… or is it I finally stepped up this year? Yesterday I had my preliminary eye exam to go down the lasik surgery road. I have allowed enough taken from each check for my medical flex spending account so that I won’t be paying one big lump sum. Plus, the place where I will actually be having the surgery, Eye Surgeons Associates, is running a special the first quarter of this year of 1/3 off the normal price.

The goofy thing is, that I had my eyes dilated for the initial exam and my eye doctor said that my eyes would remain dilated even into today. It makes all things kind of blurry, but it should be wearing off soon.

Hopefully, the end result in a couple of weeks I’ll have the surgery and be done with contacts and glasses (except reading glasses sometimes and sunglasses) for good!
