It finally makes sense! I’ve been a bit slow at work mentally. Now there’s proof as to why! Just read this!! It’s not my fault, really! It’s those… those… those… who make me dumber!
So how many of us have watched “Stranger than Fiction” starring Will Ferrell and Maggie Gyllenhaal? (And really liked the movie?!) And how many of us really liked the song that Will played on the guitar, “Whole Wide World”? OK, so I thought I’d try to listen to the song again so I headed out to YouTube. It really is amazing what you can find out there. So I found the song “Whole Wide World”… quite a few versions. And after checking them out it seems that a punk rocker called Wreckless Eric is who everyone was crediting with the song. I was pretty sure I’d heard the song before and NOT from a punk rocker like Wreckless Eric. So I did a Google on the title and I was RIGHT! While it was done first by Wreckless Eric, it seems it was covered by this group! And THAT’S the version I had heard before; it’s also the one that’s played in the move when Will stops singing.

Now I’m as religious as the next guy. Maybe more so. I currently serve on the diaconate of our church and have served on committees and also have served as a church elder. While I’m not an every-Sunday-in-church kind of guy, I am religious. I do believe in God. I believe that God created all we perceive and it has been changing since the day he created it.
All that being said, I find it extraordinarily funny that one of the local churches has a logo that more than passingly resembles the Direct TV logo. Here’s the full logo at the top of their web site:

What they have on the sign outside their church does NOT have the gray area and the orange is replaced by white. So logo on the sign outside their church looks similar to this:
![]()
It kind of bothers me when I look at it as I’m reminded of this logo:

Don’t recognize this logo? How about now:

So just when will a dyslexic person go in to the church offices and ask “Can I order Direct TV?”
I am simply stunned by the results of this study. Who would have guessed that spending more time playing video games gives you less time to read and/or do your homework?
Well, at least in my lifetime, this will NEVER happen again: At three minutes and four seconds after 2:00AM on the 6th of May this year, the time and date will be 02:03:04 05/06/07. Even if you were born between now and then it’s unlikely this will happen again - it only happens once every century. (Thanks, Bob!!)
Lately on the Encore multiplex, one of the movies making a semi-regular appearance has been Summer Lovers. This movie stars Peter Gallagher, Daryl Hannah and Valerie Quennessen and was released in 1982. It’s a fluff movie, lots of skin, lots of cool scenery (filmed on a small Greek island) and pretty much no plot line except for newlyweds accepting another woman to make a menage a trois. Yeah, I’ve watched it a couple of times (but only for the articles — REALLY!!). The strange thing about this movie is one line by Daryl Hannah. She says she has dreamed of being a mermaid. And then two years later… she plays a mermaid in Splash! Of course, in Splash she shows a LOT less skin and a lot more fin! And her role as Madison in Splash is considered her breakout role. Who would have guessed that the script writer for “Summer Lovers” was so prophetic?
I gotta let everyone who reads this know this little tidbit. It really appeals to the geek in me. Wednesday in the very early morning for one full second we will have a very special time and date. The special event will occur at 01:02:03 04/05/06. That is it will occur at precisely three seconds after 1:02 am on April 5, 2006. How cool is that?!?!
I just saw someone with a “Sam’s Choice” can of lemon iced tea and I got to thinking. Just who the heck is “Sam”? It it is Sam Walton, then do we really want the choice of a dead guy?
This woman needs to have her head examined. And I don’t mean by you and me, I mean by a qualified psychiatrist. How frickin’ stupid can someone be? (Seen first at Vo’s site)
I got another email from my friend Ron (thanks, Ron!) and it has some rather interesting facts. I did Google each item and they are all factual. (Caution: Do NOT read if you believe the mainstream media!! You will think these facts are lies!)
Just some random thoughts that I noticed last time KC and I were down at Riviera Maya and this time I noticed again. Odd ramblings and such.
- Lots of cars you simply don’t see in the US. I’m not certain why, other than the small size. I saw a lot of Hyundai Atos, Nissan Tsuru, Ford Fiesta, and Chevy Pop. The SUV of choice seemed to be the Ford EcoSport. All are small and smaller.
- KC and I actually rode in the largest taxi we could find: a Dodge Neon. Most taxis there were Nissan Tsurus.
- Is it just me or does the average Mexican of the Riviera Maya area stand about 5 feet 6 inches tall?
- I think one of the prerequisites of working at any of the resorts on the entertainment staff is that you have to look good in a bikini (gals) or speedo (guys). (I’d never qualify!)
- They take their speed bumps seriously down there. Every speed bump was either a four inch drop to a 2 foot wide trench or a line of 5 inch metal dome bolted to the road.
- Why is it that no matter what beach I walk on and no matter how short of a time I walk on that beach, I manage to step on every rock there?
- The difference between men and women:
- Men have this fascination with boobs; we can’t explain it - we just have it. Women don’t understand it.
- Women have a fascination with Adonis-type men; they can’t explain it - they just have it. And men don’t understand that.
- I had a long discussion with Danita about this - she and a couple of others were fascinated watching one of the resort men, Favio, try to get a coconut out of a palm tree — it took about 10 minutes and they couldn’t take their eyes off him. But they didn’t understand us checking out the gals who decided to sunbathe in only their bikini bottoms.
- I don’t think men will ever understand women, and vice versa.
- Why is it that when I do a “survival float” I come to rest about 2 feet below the surface of the water? How is THAT a “survival float”?
- Why is it that when we go to Mexico that some get “Montezuma’s Revenge” and yet when Mexicans come here they don’t get “Washington’s Revenge” or “Lincoln’s Revenge” or something like that?
