Smoky Mountains - Sunday

The start of our “Great Adventure”. We are headed to Gatlinburg, Tennessee; specifically to a cabin between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Our ultimate destination is The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The “we” here is KC and I and our good friends Bob and Norma. We left town about 11:30am and started heading east on I-74. We stopped for a quick lunch at Subway in Galesburg, IL that we took with us and continued down the road. We pulled off the road in Bloomington, IL for a quick pit stop (and a Dairy Queen - I had a chocolate malt!) then on east we went. We had dinner at Fillmore’s Dairy Hut in Covington, KY (excellent ice cream, by the way) and then continued to Lexington. After a few “shop around” stops for a hotel room, we ended up at Motel 6. We were all tired from the trip so we unpacked only what we needed to for the night and crashed. We had driven for about 9 hours and had about 4 hours left. It was a good day.
