New Theme

Yeah, that’s right. My creative side took over. I’ve been working on this since last week when I was in Colorado, although I’ve been thinking about doing a new theme for quite a while. It’s called “Iowa Winter 2″ because I’ve already done “Iowa Winter 1″. It will be available for download later tonight (or early tomorrow morning, depending upon how you look at it) on my wiki.

I did two things different that I’m going to include in a revamped version of all my themes. First off, I made ALL of the “My Meta” widget items graphical buttons. Earlier themes had the Login, Logout, Register and Site Admin links as words; no more! Also, I made the “Current Weather” widget configurable without going into the code. In earlier versions of this widget, you had to hack the functions.php file in order to change the city (unless you wanted it to show Muscatine, Iowa as the city). I made the city configurable in the widget.

Let me know what you think of it!

Looks good. Easy on the eyes and whatnot.

Love the theme, looks great… all that snow reminds me of here (Northern BC)… just one comment, I downloaded your theme from the WordPress site (which is how I found your site actually) and the sidebar doesn’t work for me… I’m getting an SQL error in the sidebar above Categories… I just set up WordPress today, so I have no idea how I will eventually want things set up, but again your theme did look great for me, and looks very very nice on your site.. but didn’t work for me, and I thought you might like to know that.

    Best regards,
    Tyler

    Tyler,

If you use the Sidebar Widgets plugin, the error will no longer be displayed.

Thanks Bill, and there is no doubt Sidebar Widgets will greatly improve the look of my Sidebar… unless I actually use it though, there are still sidebar problems with your theme. From the things I’ve read on the WordPress Forums, I think maybe you are trying to use template tags that have been ‘Deprecated’ … you are right though, with Sidebar Widgets installed there is no point having a side bar without them (even if it wasn’t broken), and of course, being day 1 and all it may still be that I don’t know what I’m talking about.

Thanks again for a great theme!

I tried to use this, but I can’t comment, on my own blog when I use this theme. So testing if I can overhere.
