Yeah, it’s a dubious honor at best. Some time this weekend I went over 6,000 spams blocked by my Akismet account. I installed the plugin on September 6, 2006. That means I’ve had 5 months of blocking by Akismet and it has blocked about 1200 per month or 40 per day. Doesn’t sound like much, huh? Well, take into account that if a comment is a KNOWN spam then it is automatically blocked and I don’t see it at all. I don’t know how many more have been automatically blocked by Akismet, but I do know that I have to check about 40 per day to make sure they aren’t spam.
That is a dubious honor, that’s a ton of spam.
