So I heard there was this rumor that there was a weekend the last couple of days. I guess that it’s true, looking at the calendar. But you won’t convince me of that.
Friday night I went out to see my nephew Andy play football. He’s a pretty big kid for a high school sophomore (6′2″, 240 pounds) and doesn’t do too bad of a job in the “pits”. The line is where games are won and lost. Without a good line, even Peyton Manning would be just another QB. Andy does OK for a soph. Had a nice visit with my brother and his wife in the stands while we watched the game.
Saturday morning, KC volunteered at the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center here in town - she does that every other weekend. I ran some errands and packed My Element and after she got home, we drove over to ZDog and J’s house in Des Moines. We visited there for a while and then went over to the other side of Des Moines, picked up Helen (KC’s mom) and headed out to the teeming metropolis of Redfield for the Hanging Rock Run. I didn’t participate (threw my back out the week before and didn’t want to aggravate it) but did enter and got a T-shirt. KC finished third in her age division, J finished third in her age division and ZDog finished third in his age division. As KC said, our family has third place nailed down!!
Saturday night we stayed with KC’s brother’s family in Ames. Then Sunday morning, I helped Randy (KC’s brother) with his computer setup in his home office. He is self-employed and his home office is his only office. It was a tangle of wires and such - I cleared some of that up by having him get a wireless router and configuring it for his home network. He just got a new Dell laptop and I set that up for him and copied his data from his old laptop to the new one. Also set up his networked printer and the built-in wireless so he can work pretty much from anywhere in his house. After he’s comfortable that he has all the stuff transferred, I’ll wipe his old laptop and set it up for his home wireless again so his kids can use it.
Also, I picked up Helen’s computer (she was having some problems with it) and an old computer of Randy’s (it’s better than Helen’s computer) and am going to set up Randy’s old computer for Helen. She’ll be happy that we did this as the other computer was starting to show its age: it was a Celeron 900 with 256 Mb RAM, 8 Gig HDD, 2x CD reader, and 15″ monitor. She’ll be getting a PIII 900 with 512 Mb RAM, 10 Gig HDD, CD writer, and 17″ monitor. Now if we could just get a different desk/chair set for her?! (Hey, that’s right - I work for an office furniture company!)
