No, I haven’t dropped off the face of the earth. I’ve just been busy. Busy doing a hundred detail items on the house, busy working on another plugin, busy working on a family calendar… you know, BUSY. Here’s the rundown:
First off on the house:
- Finished the trim on the cabinets. They look better than I had hoped.
- Spackled the wall behind the TV where the old phone plug was; there were also a number of old screw holes and nail holes that got spackled. Then I painted the wall - it’s now all smooth.
- Filled a number of holes in the metal siding we have with silicone sealant. I’ll be painting over the sealant tonight with extra paint.
- Returned Kevin’s table saw. I wouldn’t have been able to do the cabinets and trim without it. Thanks, Kevin!
- Filled in around the HVAC exhaust pipe (a 3″ PVC pipe) with sprayable foam sealant. When the HVAC people installed it, they pounded out a part of one of the cement blocks in the garage wall and then sealed it with some silicone stuff. The stuff wasn’t enough, so some spray foam sealant will do the trick.
Next, the calendar and plugin:
- Ran a report of all events on the current family calendar software. I’ve only got 55 events and that includes holidays. I need to contact other family members for their special dates.
- Ditched the family calendar software I was using. It was ExtCalendar. It’s nice looking, but it is slow and harder to manipulate events. Also, the template system is a nightmare.
- Installed new calendar software, Datenator. The latest version is light, easy to use and easy to customize. I have heavily customized it, even modifying the PHP code in some cases.
- Entered all the birthdays, anniversaries and holidays that I exported earlier from ExtCalendar.
- Continued testing on a new plugin for WordPress that I’ve been working on for a couple of weeks. I’m just about ready to release it, but no hints on what it is until I DO release it.
- Set up a jukebox song template in PHP and HTML for the church youth group. (I’m one of the sponsors) We have made out of wood and some plastic what looks like a jukebox but it needs a song list. I found a template on the web and created a look-alike using HTML. Then I used PHP variables to make it easy to enter the song titles and artists.
So, yeah, I’ve been busy.

Wow, you have been busy, but sounds like you’ve been very productive. Give yourself a big pat on the back
