It’s that time again. I finished my “Winter” theme. I know it isn’t officially winter until December 21 (or is it December 22?) but it IS officially the Christmas season which signals the start of winter. I do all of the development in Firefox, and then check it in Internet Explorer. While I’m not too picky about the appearance in Internet Explorer, I think it’s OK. Let me know what you think of the theme.

The pre-Thanksgiving Are you more…
01) Prone to using a letter opener to open a letter or prone to using your finger to open a letter?
I don’t even own a letter opener, so it’s got to be my finger.
02) A thief or a liar?
Try not to be either, although I do lie to the telemarketers. You know, when they’re selling windows I say “I rent”. Stuff like that.
03) Sociopathic (lacking conscience) or emotionally sensitive (too much conscience)?
Probably emotionally sensitive.
04) A conformist or a gadfly?
I tend to try to fit in, even though at 6′7″ it doesn’t always work out.
05) “Low-fat eating is the way to lose weight” or “Low-carb eating is the way to lose weight”?
Lose weight? Why?
06) An orange or a potato?
Potato. Easy to skin and delicious with toppings; kind of plain by myself.
07) Attracted to younger men/women than yourself or attracted to older men/women than yourself?
If I think they have “it” I don’t really care about the age. I’ve seen women who are in their 70’s with “it” and I’ve seen teenagers with “it”; been attracted to both.
08) A pervert or a prude?
Somewhere in the middle. I’m not an extreme of either.
09) A Star Trek fan or a Star Wars fan?
Star Trek. The ORIGINAL Star Trek. Captain Kirk will be born about 25 miles from where I live. Jar Jar Binks really turned me off on Star Wars.
10) Good at listening to someone or bad at listening to someone?
Since I work phone support, I’d say I’m pretty good at listening. My wife, however, has a different take on that!

That’s right. Here’s a Windows XP tweak you need. It only works for Windows XP (sorry to all the older versions of Windows out there). It works wonders for those of us with LCD flat panel monitors.
You absolutely NEED to turn on ClearType. It’s pretty easy to do. Here’s the steps:
- Right click on a blank place on your desktop.
- Select “Properties”.
- Click on the “Appearance” tab.
- Click on the “Effects…” button.
- In the option list where you see “Standard”, drop down the list and select “ClearType”.
- Click “OK”
- Click “OK”
You’ll notice a difference in the on-screen fonts immediately. They are clearer and more readable. If you can’t click on the option list mentioned above, you can directly download a tweaking tool from Microsoft that will set this up for you by clicking here. It makes the screen so much more readable and easy on the eyes. It does this by using anti-aliasing.
Oh, if you have a Mac or use Linux with either the KDE desktop or the Gnome desktop, you already have this feature enabled! Microsoft (again) is playing catch-up.
« Close it up, dude!
Take Me Back Tuesday is in the Thanksgiving holiday spirit of thankfulness…

2. “Wham Bam Thank You Ma’am” (Charles Mingus)
3. “Thanks for the Memories” (Bob Hope Theme, unkown artist?)
Name three artists you are thankful to have in your various collections.
1. Nickelback
2. Styx
3. Stevie Ray Vaughan
Name three albums you are thankful that you received from someone. (Yourself counts as a someone)
1. All the Right Reasons (Nickelback)
2. Show & Tell (Silvertide)
3. Greatest Hits (Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble)
That’s right. I’ve decided to remove the Flickr part of my blog. It seemed to slow the page loading and when I went to Flickr it seemed to take a long time to load the pages. They just weren’t snappy. I’ve decided to go back to Qdig. I’m not completely satisifed with the Qdig package, so I’ll be hacking it up during my free time. Yeah, right – I’ve got free time. There’s five or six hours each night where I’m doing nothing but laying there… I could be using those hours to improve Qdig, right?!
Anyway,I’ll be removing the Flickr links and going with Qdig.

Happy Anniversary, Howie and Vickie!
This week’s Friday Five is about preferences. Here we go…
1. What do you do for fun?
For fun, I play basketball, play softball, tweak computers, visit with friends and family, and (of course) EAT!!
2. Is there a person from your past you would like to talk to again, even if it would be a potentially painful conversation?
Yeah, I’d like to talk with Les. I haven’t seen him for over 15 years. It would be nice to see him again and catch up.
3. What is your favorite comfort food?
Ice cream. Nearly any kind, but I do prefer chocolate.
4. What is your preferred form of self-expression? (Do you dance; or express yourself through music, conversation, etc.)
Conversation. Maybe even this blog or email. I don’t necessarily write well, but I write better than I speak. And I know for a fact you can’t call what I do dancing.
5. You just received $5000; what do you spend it on?
A vacation for KC, the kids and I. The five of us would go to someplace warm and hang out on the beach. KC, J and Breezomatic could go scuba diving. ZDog and I could hang out on the beach. (If it was more I’d invite my brothers and their families for the same kind of thing.)

Thursday Threesome time! Here we go!
Onesome: Where’s – the main event for you and yours next Thursday? Are you staying in? …or are you doing the “Over the river and through the woods” thing?
We are staying in. We are hosting my family’s Thanksgiving. We supply the turkey and the potatoes. Others are bringing vegetables, dressing, pies, etc. Also, we’ll have setup and cleanup. We rotate it among my brothers’ families.
Twosome: the – main course? If you had your way, what would be on your plate as you sat down for a Thanksgiving meal?
Roast turkey (both white and dark meats), dressing and mashed potatoes smothered in gravy, green bean casserole, cranberry jel, and creamed corn casserole. Later I’d go back for pumpkin and/or pecan pie with whipped cream. Oh yeah!
Threesome: Server? – Who is the main server at your get together? Does one person run the show? …or do several people work together? Students: do you even get to go somewhere?
The host family runs the show. This year that’s us… well this year that’s KC. I just do what I’m told and try to stay out of the way. I’ll set up tables and chairs, clean rooms, and in general get stuff ready. Also, I’ll be the one making the gravy!!
Just got done reading the article Blog Software Smackdown, where the “Big Three” of blogging software (Movable Type, Textpattern and Wordpress) are compared and contrasted. It’s a good read, and the author comes to the conclution that Wordpress rates the highest overall. He is careful at the end, however, not to endorse any one of the three (and rightfully so). I believe he says the right things; each one does a good job but a lot depends upon your technical ability in order to uniquely customize each one.
I have been using Wordpress for quite a while and am not bashful about singing its praises. It’s nice to see that others also see the value of using Wordpress!
