This week, the Friday Five is one on internation travel. Seeing how I just got back from international travel, this might be relevant??!!
1. You have the summer and plenty of money to travel abroad. Where all would you go?
Can I change it to winter? The one place I REALLY want to go is Australia, and our summer is their winter. It’ll probably never happen, but that doesn’t mean I don’t WANT it to happen!
2. What foods would you be sure you got to eat?
I’d eat native tucker, of course! When I was in Playa del Carmen, I was walking behind two younger couples on 5th Avenue. One of the guys says, “Look - there’s a McDonald’s. Let’s eat.” and they walked in. I just wanted to slap them. Why would you go to a place with 3 local restaurants on each block and go to McDonald’s? You can go to McDonald’s anywhere (at your own risk), why do it on vacation?
3. What landmarks would you be sure you got to see?
I’d want to see the Sydney harbor, I’d want to catch an Australian Rules Football game, I’d want to do a tour of the bush. All sound appealing to me.
4. What airline would you use?
The cheapest. I’d just make sure I got an exit row - more leg room, ya know? Of course, with “plenty of money” as stated in #1, I’d probably fly first class.
5. Would your knowledge of other languages influence where you went? (i.e. would you be more likely to go to France if you spoke French?)
Nope. I have no desire to go to Europe. I would want to go to a number of Far East locations (Philippines, Japan, Malaysia, etc) before Europe, and I don’t even know how to say the three most important phrases in those languages. (The three most important phrases are: Please, Thank You, and Where’s the bathroom?) Language isn’t an issue because I’ll probably figure out how to communicate the basics, wherever I go.
