Interesting Statistic

So I was talking with my brothers-in-law this weekend and they threw out a factiod. I can’t prove it, but I can relay the information here. One stated that they checked the rosters and found that 25% of all the white players in the NBA from the United States are actually from Iowa. Well, it is true; we have a number of players from Iowa in the NBA (odd, huh?):

  • Ryan Bowen - Houston Rockets - went to Iowa; from Fort Madison, Iowa.
  • Nick Collison - Seattle Supersonics - went to Kansas; from Orange City, Iowa.
  • Kirk Hinrich - Chicago Bulls - went to Kansas; from Sioux City, Iowa.
  • Fred Hoiberg - Minnesota Timberwolves - went to Iowa State; from Ames, Iowa.
  • Kyle Korver - Philadelphia 76ers - went to Creighton; from Pella, Iowa.
  • Raef LaFrentz - Boston Celtics - went to Kansas; from Hampton, Iowa.

Kind of impressive for a state that simply isn’t known for basketball; heck we aren’t known for much of anything except maybe corn and hogs. Like I said, I can’t verify the 25% without a lot of work, but after a quick look through the rosters, it looks close to true.
