Safe at Home

KC and I made it back home safely, but what a great time we had at my brother’s place at Boulder.

Thursday afternoon we spent some time at the FlatIron Crossing Mall. It is a pretty good-sized mall and has a ton of shops. It was rather interesting because part of it is an outdoor mall and part is an indoor mall. I thought having an outdoor mall is rather strange in that area as they do get a lot of snow and a lot of cold weather, but I guess that’s why I don’t get the big bucks! We had to stop somewhere to get some Red Robin spice and picked some up at the restaurant in the mall. We also checked out some other stores and really didn’t buy much, except for some sugar-free chocolates in the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory shop there.

Thursday evening we went to the Boulder Dinner Theater and saw their production of Chicago. It was a great show. My brother says that they have been reviewed by the Denver Post; John Moore, theater critic for the Denver Post, gave it a rave. I’d have to agree. While live theater is always different from a movie, this time the difference was refreshing. I thought it was a great production and also a really good meal. I have no complaints and no, I’m not saying this just because my brother was in the band!

Friday afternoon we toured the Coors brewery in Golden, Colorado. Golden is a small town of about 18,000; it is a 45 minute drive from my brother’s house. The brewery tour was very interesting. I learned a lot about the way Coors brews beer and found that it is different than Budweieser and Miller. I also got to taste a few of the beers that they brew (only three 8-ounce samples were free).

Friday evening we went to the Denver Nuggets final preseason game. From what I saw, the Nuggets should be competitive this year. They may not make the playoffs and they may not get to a .500 record, but they should at least be close in most of the games. It will be interesting to see how their season plays out. While I was not impressed with their transition from defense to offense, their transition from offense to defense was good. They seemed more ready to defend than to run their offense. This is a good sign at this point of the season. A big thank-you should go to the client/friend of my sister-in-law as the seats were row five at center court. I could almost smell the sweat!

Saturday morning we watched the Hawks play in the Lazy Dog Sports Bar & Grill; they were not the regional game for Colorado, so we had to go someplace for the satellite viewing. We had some appetizers during the first half and had lunch at half time. It was a great place to watch the game as Colorado has banned smoking in the bars; makes for a clearer view of the projection TV screen. Oh, by the way, the Hawks won 26-14 over Penn State.
